“Deconstructed Pop Art” is the term used by Matt Gondek to describe his work which features familiar cartoon characters in various stages of decay and disarray. His special blend of appropriation and branding have gained him a massive global following especially in Asia. What started as works on canvases and walls has transitioned into 3D vinyl figures and beyond. With a dedicated team of assistants in his glossy downtown LA studio he has established himself as a major player in the collectable new age pop art scene. Not content to keep things simple, Gondek started a new thread of his art career 3 years ago with the introduction of a new art and business podcast called Clean Break with himself as the host. Between podcasting, painting, designing toys, traveling and painting murals, running a busy studio, and walking his dog, we were happy to steal a bit of his time for a chat with VantagePoint in the Clean Break studios in downtown Los Angeles.
